More than anything, qwaston is driven by a gut feeling. The 23-year-old French producer and DJ claims their output is “diverse, almost random,” but to us we see a chain of passionate dedication in every sound they’ve tried. They’ve been writing music on the computer since 5, once a heart set on scoring their own films later turned dubstep deep dive into sound-design heavy music. A string of releases on Halcyon in 2021 marks a brief stint in the then-emerging future riddim scene, followed by pop edits & singles that draw from UKG, bass music & hyperpop. Now, they paint in all the colors: an official remix for elxnce & cece natalie, production for snoa and numerous French rap acts, and a debut solo album on the way later this year. ‘Patch Provider’ is a tour of every tool in the kit: a patchwork of patches weaving together endless genres.
