By day, Pedro Lucas and Enzo Dicarlo are chart-topping Brazilian pop producers, but by night they become Soundcloud’s funk edit auteurs dj lukinhas and dj carlozs. They’ve remixed everyone from Burial & Aphex Twin to Mk.gee & Oklou, and are at the center of one of our favorite Soundcloud wormholes: a scene of deeply interlocked Brazilian soundclown side projects with endless layers of in-jokes and high levels of craft. These notorious aliases began as silly side projects for the São Paulo roommates while working with Brazilian popstars like Pabllo Vittar, Marina Sena, IVYSON & Maui, but have since become a core artistic outlet for the duo, pushing tongue-in-cheek mashups of Brazilian funk, IDM, and international pop into a realm of high art.

In a genre built around edits, resampled MCs and drum rhythms, representing the dj lukinhas & dj carlozs sound in a pack of original sound design was no easy task…but they did it. ‘acabou o sossego’ is a party-starting Portuguese meme phrase meaning “the peace is over”, or roughly “we out here”. Mangling & resequencing analog synths like the Korg MS200, Minilogue XD & Roland JP-8080, borrowed from their pop mentor Maffalda (DJ TONIAS by night), they channeled funk’s distorted & rhythmic essence into something new but true to themselves. “To me this feels like a signature of the way that we make music,” lukinhas tells us, “both respecting the sound that came before us and reaching to something that feels fresh.” Beyond the synth work, they pay homage to the classic samples at the core of funk by using the same experimental processes on their own vocal and percussion recordings.
